The National Fire Protection Association recommends that chimneys, fireplaces, and vents in frequent use be inspected annually. These inspections ensure that the ventilation paths are free from harmful deposits and blockages, compliance with clearance requirements, and that the chimney is structurally sound.

When You Should Have Your Chimney Inspected

  • Before each heating season
  • Prior to purchasing a new home
  • Prior to installation of a new fuel-burning appliance (furnace, hot water heater)
  • After occurrences such as chimney fires, trees / branches hitting the chimney, or lightning strikes
  • If you experience recurring back-drafts of smoke or notice soot anywhere in your home

Priddy’s experienced and certified chimney sweeps will perform a thorough inspection of your fireplace or appliance flue.

We will then present you with a digital inspection report detailing our findings and recommendations.

If blockages or significant soot deposits are found inside your chimney flue, our experienced sweeps are equipped with the tools to clear the flue of any deposits to ensure a safe and clear ventilation path for your appliance or fireplace.

Priddy Chimney Sweeps performs all types of flue sweeping including:

  • Wood Burning Fireplace
  • Wood Stoves and Inserts
  • Gas Fireplaces
  • Oil Furnace Flues
  • Gas Furnace Flues

Chimney Safety Inspection Services

Level 2 Inspection Service

Level 1

A Level 1 inspection is recommended if your appliance or fireplace has not changed and you plan to use your system as you have in the past.

Level 1 is a strictly visual review of the readily accessible areas of the chimney and appliance interior and exterior.

A Priddy technician examines the basic soundness of the chimney system to confirm that the ventilation path is free from obstructions, that there are no harmful deposits of creosote, and that critical clearances to flammable surfaces (e.g. wood or drywall surrounds) are maintained.

Chimney Sweep Inspections

Level 2

A Level 2 is required in the event of a home sale or if you are making any changes to your chimney system, notably a change in the fuel type, e.g. moving from oil to gas.

Level 2 is also required if you have experienced a chimney fire, or following extreme weather events which may have impacted your chimney. In addition to the items included in Level 1 inspection, the Priddy sweep may examine the attic or crawlspace to examine your appliance’s ventilation path and identify potential issues.

We also include a video inspection of the flue lining and chimney structure. This provides more granular information around the flue tiles and joints.

Chimney Inspection

Level 3

A Level 3 inspection is strongly recommended when a hidden hazard is suspected as a result of either a Level 2 or 2 inspection or significant structural damage is apparent.

This is the most thorough and invasive inspection process, and may involve removing masonry, drywall or other covering materials to access chimney structural components.
